Show John Garfield On Mario Bill Dulcet-toned crooners may make the bobby-soxers sigh and swoon, but what the woman really go for is a guy who treats 'em rough and mean. So femme fans will be glad to hear that John Garfield gets rougher than ever before in Warner Bros.' tense new drama, "Nobody Lives Forever," currently playing at the Mario theater. As Nick Elake. a veteran trying try-ing to regain his lost reputation as a "big boy" in the rackets. Garfield assumes a role which is a "natural" for him. His task is made difficult by a deceitful girl friend (Faye Emerson) who attempts to withhold a SoO,-000 SoO,-000 bankroll he left in her safekeeping. safe-keeping. Nick changes her mind in typi"a! "Garfield" fashion and teams up with a mob intent on absorbing 'lie belter paat of a young and beautiful widow's fortune. But the scheme backfires back-fires as Nick's conscience makes itself felt and the fireworks begin be-gin to sputter and fly. Co-starred with Garfield, in the role of the beauteous widow, is Geraldine Fitzgerald. A capable cap-able supporting cast features, besides be-sides Faye Emerson. Walter Brennan who plays "Pop" Gru-ber, Gru-ber, a sharp-witted oldster who has seen better days; George Coulouris as "Doc" Ganson, a cheap, unscrupulous mobster; George Tobias as Al Doyle, Nick's faithful side-kick; Ralph Peters, James Flavin and others. |
