Show Carter named alumnus of month Dr. Clinton K. Carter has been chosen as the Viewmont Hish School PTSA Alumnus of the i month for February. Clinton graduated from Viewmont View-mont with the first graduating class in 1966 where he served as Junior class vice president and student-body student-body vice president. Also in his senior year, he was named Sterling Scholar in science and went on to : win in that category in state com-: com-: petition. From 1967-69 he served an LDS mission in Brazil where he was district dis-trict leader and zone leader. Upon his return, he began his studies at the University of Utah. His undergraduate under-graduate work was in biology and he received the National Science Foundation Student Research Grant for his studies on the ecology of the Great Salt Lake and Farm-ington Farm-ington Bay. At this time, the artificial heart project was in its infancy at the University, and Clinton was one of the first "calf sitters" in that program. prog-ram. Later when he entered the college of medicine, he was given the Outstanding Student Research Award for his work on artificial heart and platelet function. Dr. Carter served his internship in internal medicine at the David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis AFB, Calif, and then his residency re-sidency in emergency medicine at Denver General Hospital, Denver, Colo. In 1980 Dr. Carter, now a major in the United States Air Force, became be-came director of the emergency room at Travis AFB. Never one to let grass grow under his feet, Dr. Carter concurrently worked part-time part-time at the California Medical facility facil-ity and at the Intercommunity Hospital Hos-pital in Fairfield, Calif. During these years, he traveled hundreds of miles each week in order to meet his responsibilities at each medical center. In 1982 Dr. Carter moved to Denver, De-nver, Colo., where he became an emergency physician at St. Anthony Hospital systems. At this time he also founded Mountain View Medical Associates, a facility which includes family practice, minor emergency medicine and physical therapy and rehabilitation. rehabilita-tion. The following year he founded Mountain View Medical Management, Manage-ment, the company which distributes distri-butes a computer system Dr. Carter Car-ter has developed for physician practice management. This system is now used in hospitals around the country. In 1986 Dr. Carter began Physicians' Shared Services, another management company which serves physicians. Having reached the pinnacle in so many facets of his career, it seems appropriate that Clinton climbs mountains for fun and recreation. re-creation. He has scaled many of the world's highest peaks and plans to go to the Himalayas next. While still in ccUsgc, Clinton received his private pilot and glider pilot licenses, and he is l:o a licensed sky diver. He still flies in his somewhat some-what limited spare time. The VHS PTSA is proud to acknowledge ack-nowledge the accomplishments of former Vikings and will add Dr. Clinton K. Carter's name to the H '4 s X DR. CLINTON K. CARTER Outstanding Alumni plaque in the foyer of the school. These alumni will be honored at a special awards night in April when the Valkyrie awards for outstanding student accomplishment will be presented. |
