Show Copy Of Formal Protest On File With City Council June 16, 1951 To: Honorable Mayor Homer P. Edwards and City Council-men Council-men of Roosevelt City, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, Utah. The Roosevelt Parents and Teachers' Association has been I reliably informed that the Roosevelt Roos-evelt City Council at their meeting meet-ing on' June 11, 1951, voted to grant a permit to the Phillips 66 Oil Company to construct a gasoline and oil bulk plant on the said Phillips 66 property, located one-half block east of the Roosevelt Elementary School, the property on which (the present Wasatch Phillips 66 j Service Station is now being operated. op-erated. ! We, the undersigned repre-1 repre-1 sentatives and members of the I Roosevelt Parents and Teachers I Association desire to vigorously 1 ' protest this action of the City ! I Council. We feel that under no I i circumstances should the building build-ing of such a structure be auth-' auth-' orized, for the following reasons: 1. It is a" hazard to our elementary ele-mentary school, located nearby, which has an enrollment of approximately ap-proximately 450 children. 2. It is a hazard to our chil dren who are continuously playing play-ing in and about that vicinity during school and vacation periods. per-iods. 3. It is a definite hazard to the many fine homes in the proximity thereof. 4. It is' our feeling that it will not add, but on the contrary, con-trary, detract from the beauty of our city. 5. We understand that it will raise the. already excessive insurance in-surance rates oh school, and in fact all property. 6. We fail to find one solitary item of benefit to the community, commun-ity, except that the taxes derived de-rived from the proposed structure, struc-ture, will add to the city revenue. rev-enue. However, it is our unanimous unani-mous feeling that the hazards involved far and definitely outweigh out-weigh any values derived from the said proposal. We- also urgently recommend that the other bulk plants so located lo-cated within our city limits be removed to a location where they will be less hazardous for our children and our community. commun-ity.
