Show Boy Scout Week To Be Observed Throughout U.S.A. The nation's 2,000 Cub Scouts, Explorers and their adult leaders lead-ers will observe Boy Scout Week, Feb. 6 to 12. marking the 42nd birthday of their organization or-ganization by giving the nation i a unique birthday present. The Boy Scouts of America will launch a new. three-year program known as "Forward . . On Liberty's Team," a program of action designed to help keep America strong and free. The Boy Scout birthday will be observed throughout the United States, its territories and wherever American families live, either in service in the Armed Forces, or as representatives representa-tives of the Government and business. This year's celebration will honor the organizations and institutions in-stitutions whose sponsorship make possible the existence and growth of the nation's 80,298 Packs, Troops and Explorer Units. Un-its. At public ceremonies, the Scouts and leaders will express their appreciation to the religious relig-ious bodies, school organizations, veterans' associations, fraternal groups and service clubs which sponsor them. The Units will then review all the ways in which the sponsoring spon-soring institution has helped the Unit as a whole as well as the individuals in it. The Scout Units Un-its will announce the goals of their three-year program to helo achieve the goals of the 'Forward 'For-ward . . On Liberty's Team" program, which is to make the boy, the Scout Movement and the Nation physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Observed in every city and town and most villages and hamlets ham-lets by more than 80,000 Unit3, Boy Scout Week is the largest single birthday observance by young Americans. The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated at Washington, D. C. on Feb. 8, 1910. Traditionally, Tradition-ally, on that day, the members recommit themselves to the Scout Oath or Promise at 8:15 p. m. in the four time zones. Boy Scout Sunday will be observed Feb. 10 in thousands of churches with Scouts and leaders lead-ers attending services in uniform. uni-form. Those of Jewish faith will hold their observances in synagogues syna-gogues andHemples Friday evening eve-ning and Saturday, Feb. 8 and A. During Boy Scout Week it has also become a tradition for Units to be hosts to friends and parents at Open House meetings and show some ol the skills they acquire through the game of Scouting. These birthday week Scout parties provide fun, songs, games and stunts for the Scouts and their guests. Many store windows and building lobbies are loaned to Scouts who put on "live expositions" expo-sitions" where the public can see how Scouts train for Civil Defense or Emergency Service. The conservation of the nation's resources an important activity activ-ity these days has long been a principal activity of the Boy Scouts. Millions of trees have been planted by Scouts and countless wild life game preserves pre-serves are maintained on many Boy Scout campsites. Some of this conservation work will also be on display. ' Scouts will demonstrate the training in first aid, firemanship, lifesaving, communications, sanitation, san-itation, safety and similar skills that prepare for service. They are prepared to help with messenger mes-senger service, first aid training and to cooperate with other organizations or-ganizations responsible for furnishing furn-ishing food, shelter and clothing during emergency periods. In some communities Scouts will hold test mobilizations to see how quickly they can assemble, as-semble, fully equipped, to help in emergencies. Through test "scavenger hunts" they round up supplies that would be needed need-ed should disaster strike. |
