Show Approximately 500 Students From Ten Schools Set To Compete In Two-Day Roosevelt Meet Tomorrow morning at 9:30, Roosevelt City will be the scene of music student activity, when ten schools in Region 5 will participate in the two-day event, with instrumental, chorus, and vocal contests going on at all times. Approximately 500 students and leaders will dot Roosevelt streets and schools for this annual activity, which is completely organized and ready to proceed according ac-cording to schedule, reports Principal Lawrell Jensen, general chairman of the festival. Judges selected for the various var-ious activities are as follows: Gerritt DeJong, Jr., head of the music and fine arts department of the B Y U, who will judge instrumental work; Clair Johnson, John-son, Weber College, band work; J. Spencer Cornwall, director of the Salt Lake L D S Tabernacle Taber-nacle Choir, choruses; Lorraine Bowman, East High School, vo- cal work; J. L. Terry. Morgan . High School, and Newell B. ' Waite, B Y U, instrumental solos and ensembles. j All instrumental, vocal and chorus contests will be judged j Friday, and at 10 a. m. Saturday, Satur-day, the spectacular parade of all bands in their uniforms will inarch through main street, lin- ' ing up near the hospital on the Neola highway. They will march; as far as Snow Machinery, turn there and return to Lagoon intersection in-tersection for a mass band 'concert; 'con-cert; before separating to"make preparations for boarding buses for home. Courtesy cars and buses will be at each particular building where activities are being held to transport students back and forth to meet scheduled performances. per-formances. Arrangements for the courtesy cars are being handled by the Lions Club, who will be at the; : Roosevelt Stake House; the Commercial Com-mercial Club, who has been assigned the Junior High School; and the Kiwanis Club, at Union High School. - Each school will be assigned to a home room at Union High, I and a first aid station and clothing repair room have been arranged for there, also. (Continued from page 1) hamburger stands will be set up in the city to alleviate crowded crowd-ed cafe conditions, and allow students time to meet scheduled sched-uled events. Mr. Jensen invites the public pub-lic to attend all festival activity, which is absolutely free, including- all contest numbers Friday and the variety program Friday night, which will commence promptly at 7:30 p. m at Union High School. This will be under the direction of Bennie Schmiett and will include numbers from each school. Following the variety program pro-gram Friday, a dance will be held, with a good orchestra hired to furnish the music. At 9:45 p. m., those housing the students are asked to be at Union High School to take the! students to their homes. Cour-I tesy cars will be at the school, also to take care of anyone not having a ride. . , Scheduled for Saturday are' the parade and mass band con-1 cert. ' A meeting for the Region 5 board of directors, coaches and principals involved in the festival festi-val is scheduled for 12 noon' Friday in the Home Economic;1 room of the Junior High School Luncheon will be served during1 the meeting. |
