Show Store Founder i I C : Founder and board chairman chair-man of the department store chain bearing his name is J. C. Penney, who personifies an American success story in the best tradition. The son of a farmer and part-time preacher, preach-er, he started life in Missouri. Investing $500 savings and $1,500 borrowed capital, he opened a little dry goods store in Kemmerer, Wyo., in 1902, determined to operate it on the Golden Rule principles prin-ciples taught him as a boy. Today that store has grown to more than 1,600 and the name, J. C. Penney, is known to millions as a synonym for fair dealing. |
