Show 4-H Club FMes Fine Record In Three Years The Jolly Stitchers 4-H club that was organized in Roosevelt early in 1948, with Mrs. Rulon (Erma) Anderton as leader, has made an outstanding record in their three years of activity. Early in the spring of 1948, Janet Stevens, Colleen Moore, Carol Scheafermeyer, Marilyn Stewart, JeNeal Pack, Janice Anderton, Joyce Hall, Maxine Hurley and Karolyn Roberts heard about 4-H club work and decided they would like to organize or-ganize themselves into a unit. . . . They had the desire, now all they needed was a leader. An ambitious group of girls helped to prove an old theory that if you want someone to do n job, go to the busiest person in town, and you'll find your man. . . . Mrs. Anderton, mother of six children, and active in church and civic work, mother of Janice, a busy house-wife, became their leader, realizing that here was a chance to do something more to help a group of young girls to achieve and become useful women later on. The Jolly Stitchers was organized organ-ized in May, 1948. They have had three years of project work in clothing with every member of the club competing com-peting each year. They have attended at-tended annual 4-H camp as a group; exhibited at the county and state fairs, and won the I county demonstration contest for two years. One of the highlights of their activities is their work in health improvement, for which they won state honors two years. Several of the original charter char-ter members have withdrawn from the club, but others have taken their places, and today they have seven members ready and willing for another year. Last week these girls, whose pictures will be found elsewhere in this issue of the Standard, sponsored a page advertisement telling the public about 4-H work. The girls and their leader are anxious to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all who have assisted them in making mak-ing their work the complete success suc-cess it has been. As a final thought, Louis Jensen, Jen-sen, county agent for Duchesne, was emphatic in commending the 36 other 4-H club units in the county for their fine work. The Jolly Stitchers is just one of 37 clubs which are doing outstanding and commendable work and deserve to be praised along with this particular group. |
