Show UTAH STATE EXTENSION 8ERVICB AGRICULTURE HOME ECONOMICS BY LOUIS A. JENSEN About 150 farmers and ranchers ranch-ers attended our fourth annual range tour last Saturday, sponsored spon-sored by the Extension service and the Soil Conservation district. dis-trict. The range grass seedings we visited looked good considering consid-ering the adverse weather conditions con-ditions this spring. It is hoped that more of our people will plant some land to these grasses to provide additional feed for their livestock. Virgil H. Nelson, of Green-river, Green-river, informs me he is shipping three-day old Holstein calves into in-to the state, Selected from well-bred well-bred stock, they are coming from California. Investigations a,re being made to determine the source of these calves and the advisability of dairymen in this area obtaining some of them to build up a dairy herd or make replacements. Anyone interested in this may contact my office. The horn flies are beginning to bother our cattle, especially dairy cows, this time of year. A few cents spent for- insecticides insecti-cides apd a few "niinutes to spray them en will pay big dividends in increased milk production, better condition, and more contented con-tented animals. D.D.T. is effective effec-tive in controlling hprn flies but is recommended only for young stock er beef animals. It is not recommended for spraying milch cows or for use in the barns. One of the best and safest materials ma-terials for such use Is Methoxy-chlor. Methoxy-chlor. This is sold under different differ-ent trade names and can be purchased pur-chased at the drug store or other oth-er places where insecticides are handled, |
