Show 50 Housing Units Proposed To Alleviate Shortage That erection of 50 housing units in the $8,000 to $10,000 class, on a subdivision west of Union high school, would go far toward solving Roosevelt's housing shortage was the opinion op-inion expressed by B. D. Scott, of the Felt Syndicate, Salt Lake City building contractors. Mr. Scott spoke Saturday at a Lions club banquet, called for the purpose pur-pose of considering an expanded city housing- program. The houses to be built would be for sale, not rental units. The housing program, based on the assumption that all building build-ing is to be done on a single plot of ground and not on scattered scat-tered individual lots, would be principally for veterans. Actual construction, as outlined out-lined by Mr. Scott, would be on the progressive system, with the various parts of the houses being sub-contracted, i i i Mr. Scott advised that since Roosevelt is a new building area, ar-ea, factual information would be necessary before any form of planning could be undertaken. undertak-en. Preliminary information necessary ne-cessary before a housing program can be planned, Mr. Scott said, would include (1) the number of houses needed in Roosevelt; (2) annual income of interested individuals; in-dividuals; (3) the number of interested in-terested parties who are GIs; (4) lot costs in Roosevelt; (5) water and sewer facilities; (6) local labor situation; and (7) availability, locally, of building material. Mr. Scott's plans and questions ques-tions were taken under advisement, advise-ment, with the expectancy that some action will be taken later. Approximately 25, including several interested in purchasing homes, attended the banquet. E. J. Nixon was chairman. i 1 1 Mr. Nixon said Wednesday that Mr. Scott plans to return to Roosevelt this week-end to continue his investigation of the local housing situation. Those interested In purchasing homes, Mr. Nixon continued, should contact him immediately, as it is necessary to present Mr. Scott with as much information as is available in the shortest possible time with regard to the profitable financing of housing units in Roosevelt. If the houses are constructed, local labor will handle most of the work. |
