Bill To Divide Utes By Blood Is Explained Senate Bill S 3532 is to provide pro-vide for partition and distribution distribu-tion of the assets of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation in Utah between be-tween mixed-blood members thereof; and for termination, of Federal supervision over property pro-perty and persons of the mixed-blood mixed-blood members of said tribe; to provide a development program for the full-blood members of said trible; and for other purposes pur-poses has been approved by the Sub-committee on Indian Affairs. Members of the Tribe who possess more than one-half degree de-gree of Ute Indian blood, excepting ex-cepting those who become mixed-bloods by choice under the provision of Section 4 of the Act will be classified as Full-bloods. Full-bloods. Members of the tribe who' possess less than one-half degree of Ute Indian blood and those who become mixed-bloods by choice, under Section 4 of the Act, snail be classified as Mixed-bloods. The exact number num-ber of mixed-bloods and full-bloods full-bloods cannot be determined at this date. i The Act provides that after seven years from the date of enactment all property distributed distrib-uted to the mixed-blood group under the provision of the Act and all income derived there- from by the individual, corporation, corpor-ation, or other legal entity, shall be subject to' the same taxes, state and federal as in the case of non-Indians. Mrs. Miller was making a study of social conditions on the reservation with regard to the reorganization of the welfare wel-fare program for the Ute Indians. In-dians. E.' F. Pillsberry, director of communications services for the Phoenix Area Office, was transacting trans-acting business at the Uintah and Ouray Agency this week. Mr. Pillsberry is a specialist in telephone construction and maintenance and inspected the Indian Bureau system while at the Agency. Mr. Pillsberry announces an-nounces that his family have moved to their farm near La-point La-point for the summer. |
