Show Jones Stresses People's Interest In Government OGDEN, AUG. 23 "People are now becoming more conscious con-scious of the trends in government, govern-ment, than ever before," according accord-ing to Preston L. Jones, candidate candi-date for the Republican nomination nom-ination for congress in the First Utah district, who spoke to Republicans Re-publicans of the first district at the Wall Avenue Improvement Improve-ment center, "First they are asking where does their real security lie?" Jones said. Second, what Is happening hap-pening to the trend of values and money?" And third, "How have we gotten ourselves Into a predictament where we are fighting a war in Korea whereby, where-by, when we win and achieve our objective of pushing the Communist forces behind the 38th parallel, which is our arbitrary ar-bitrary point set up to divided Korea, we will succeed in keeping keep-ing that country divided," Jones continued. "We fought a civil war to keep this country united; we are now fighting a war to keep Korea divided. "How did we get ourselves in uch a predicament," Jones queried his audience. "What about values and money?" Jones asked. He explained that ten years ago, if a man had 750 dollars, he could buy a Ford, Chevrolet, or Plymouth automobile. automo-bile. If, however, he put the money into the bank as a savings sav-ings account at compound interest in-terest and withdrew it ten years later, then went to buy one of these cars, he would have less than half enough. Jones concluded his talk with these questions: "Where does the people's real security lie? Is it in the printing presses of the United States Treasury? Is it in a Socialistic or Communistic Commun-istic form of government, and after all a Communist is just an impatient socialist. Or does it lie in the preservation of our constitutional form of government govern-ment whereby the free agency of man is given first priority?" |
