Show Republicans From Two Counties Set Sights On Dam Day Climaxing weeks of feverish preparation, Republicans of Duchesne Du-chesne and Uintah counties will stage Uintah Basin Dam Day Saturday at the courthouse grounds, Vernal, according to J. V. McLea, county GOP chairman. chair-man. "The primary objective, of Dam Day is to encourage residents resi-dents of the Uintah Basin and of Utah to promote, through 'action and words,' reclamation projects vital to the welfare of the Uintah Basin and the state the Echo Park and Split Mountain reservoirs," A. P, Voorhies, Dam Day chairman, ; said. "Faced with the prospect of war and stubborn opposition to the dams by the National Parks service, wildlife groups, and others, the Republican parties of Duchesne and Uintah counties coun-ties have dedicated their future endeavors toward seeing that Interior Secretary Oscar L. Chapman's favorable decision progresses from a 'mirage' to the 'real thing,' " Mr. Voorhies Prominent Republicans who will be present at Dam Day include in-clude Gov. J. Bracken Lee and all candidates seeking federal and state office at the Sept. 5 primary: Wallace F. Bennett and Rue L. Clegg, GOP Senatorial Sen-atorial aspirants; Howard Call and Preston L. Jones, Congressional Congres-sional candidates; and David T. Lewis and Joseph E. Nelson, candidates for the state supreme court. All of these men will speak, as well as former tL S. Representative William A. Dawson. Daw-son. Another highlight of the Dam Day program will be the awarding award-ing of free air trips to Grand Coulee dam to six Boy Scouts, three each from the Duchesne and Uintah districts. Other features fea-tures will include free shows for the kids, an all-star girls soft-ball soft-ball game, a talent show, and a tennis court dance. |
