Show , . Lliner Falls To Death In Gilsonite Shaft Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Vernal Second ward chapel. Church of Jesus Christ of Xatter-day Saints, for Morris Durfee, 43, Vernal miner, min-er, who' was killed Friday at about 8:45 a.m. when he felL into a shaft at the little Bonanza Bon-anza Gilsonite mine. , Mr. Durfee was working in the mine sacking gilsonite when he apparently stepped into the shaft while attempting to move a gilsonite car. He fell about 190 feet. The body was recovered recover-ed from 17 feet of watef. The victim apparently died instantly of head injuries. Picking Gilsonile Lloyd Goodrich, a fellow worker, was -working in the slope picking gilsonite and had been talking to Mr. Durfee about 15 minutes before he was discovered missing. Morris Durfee was born July 1, 1910, a son of Edmond Frank-, Frank-, lin and Nancy Ellen Martix i Durfee. He married Ella Wil-kins Wil-kins Sept. 19, 1933, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He had been employed at the mine since last ! summer. Survivors include the widow; two sons and three daughters, Reed, Grant, Loraine, Caroline and Joann; all of Vernal; four brothers and two sisters, Ralph and Fay Durfee, Leota; Franklin, Frank-lin, American Fork; Jay Durfee, Dur-fee, Mrs. Angeline Driggs and Mrs Olive Curfew, all of Salt Lake City. Burial was in the Vernal Cemetery under the direction of the Vernal Mortuary. |
