Show Utah Returns To Metal Plates in '45 Utah will return to metal license li-cense plates in 1945 one to a car after having experimented for two years with unsatisfactory substitutes. Tax Commissioner Roscoe- E. Hammond said Friday the government gov-ernment has lifted the ban on metal for automobile tags, but only to the extent of allowing one to a car. The state has to take its chance on getting steel. Now the state is seeking 55 tons of sheet metal, and whether it is available will be determined on March 24, date for closing of the bids. Mr. Hammond said a few states, by waiting until late in 1943 to have the plates made, were able to obtain steel for this year's use. The ban was lifted late last year. Mr. Hammond said the commission com-mission went to substitutes for two years only out of necessity, and is glad steel again will be available. To which might be added: So are the motorists. |
