Show Funds Alloted For Utah's Centennial Exposition The "go ahead" signal has been given the Utah Centennial Board by Governor Herbert B. Maw who made available funds totaling total-ing $150,000.00 from the special fund of the Utah Department of Publicity and Industrial Development. Develop-ment. With the granting of the appropriation, ap-propriation, the commission's request re-quest for a special session of the legislature has been withdrawn. The $150,000.00 is expected to be sufficient until the next regular meeting of the legislature. The centennial board's budget calls for expenditures as follows: $48,000, promotional purposes', $27,000 for music, pageantry, art j and drama; $22,500 for sports; $15,000 for administrative pur-' poses; $13,00 for beautification; and $5,000 for use of the historical histor-ical committee. An emergency fund of $26,000 will be held in reserve. The matter of providing funds for the exposition will be settled settl-ed after a decision is made relative rela-tive to whether the centennial commission or the state fair board will conduct that activity. The activities of the Centennial Centen-nial commission will be coordinated coordin-ated with those of all state departments de-partments by Gordon Taylor Hyde, stale finance commission chairman and Aaron W. Tracy of the state department of publicity pub-licity and industrial development. develop-ment. Gus Backman, executive secretary, sec-retary, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, announces that the slate-wide beautification campaign cam-paign of which Donald P. Lloyd is chairman and Horace J. Gunn manager, is already underway. The centennial commission's promotional committee to develop devel-op plans for local celebrations throughout the state in 1947 will take to the field this week. |
