Show SaSt Lake Fight Promoter Launches Local Mit Program Don Galbreath, popular sports promoter of Salt Lake City and owner of Don's Athletic Club, will initiate a series of local matches, Friday, March 22 at Victory Park. According to arrangements ar-rangements made with Manager "Buzz" Larsen of Victory Park, top professional boxing events will be held every other Friday evening at the park. The March 22 show will feature fea-ture "Cowboy" Chipman, Golden Gold-en Gloves finalist of Murray who recently donned the professional cloak. He will be matched against "Rocky" Monatoya, a flashy hard punching 128 pounder pound-er from Ogden. As an amateur Chipman was rated as one of the nation's best, and since turning turn-ing pro is fast proving that it's going to take a good man to beat , him. Friday's events will also match Bennie Flake, a colored lad from Salt Lake City, against Bobbie Hunter of Denver, in the semifinal semi-final bout. Both will weigh in around the 160 mark. As a special spe-cial attraction, Promoter Galbreath Gal-breath will send Matt Jackson, colored, of Salt Lake City into the ring to trade punches with Al Romero of Price. Four fast preliminary bouts will ring up the curtain at Victory Vic-tory Park on March 22 at 8:15 p. m. Every other Friday, Mr. Galbreath Gal-breath will arrive in Roosevelt sufficiently early to permit interested in-terested local amateurs to work out with some of the professionals profession-als who will appear on the evening's eve-ning's card. "This will give the local boys a chance to pick up some extra fine pointers from some extra fine fighters, announced announ-ced Victory Park manager, Buzz Larson. In a recent letter Promoter Don Galbreath. known generally general-ly as, "The Old Sarge," advised the Standard, "We will use as many of your local boys as possible. pos-sible. The main reason that we are fighting is to develop some Utah men into challengers. Every fight will be well matched and strictly on the level. We're going to give the Uintah Basin some of the best in professional boxing." |
