Show Bentjey Trio Performs For Receptive Group An appreciative and enthusiastic enthusi-astic crowd welcomed the offerings offer-ings of The Eentlcy Trio, famed marimba-xylophone artists, who appeared Monday evening in the Roosevelt stake amusement hall under the auspices of the stake M I A. To the viberatlng strains of "La Paloma" the r'lrun parted to open the program of marimba-xylophone marimba-xylophone music which ranged from classical to modern swing numbers, presented artistically by three seasoned performers. To acquaint the audience with the workings and construction of the marimba-xylophone, Mr. Bcntlcy gave an instructive and interesting interest-ing discourse. He explained the tone origin of the instrument, and traced a history of his own marimba-xylophone, describing the types of wood used in its construction. The Bentlcy's presented their hour long program costumed in Mexican dress. Throughout, the performance was spiced with bits of humor, and appended by Interpretive dancing by Miss Bentley. Although each number constituted a display of artistry in itself, the climax, so far as the audience was concerned came with Mr. Bcntley's marimba-xylophone marimba-xylophone rendition of the "Poet and Peasant Overture". He was accompanied at. the piano by Mrs. Bentley. Mr. Bentley's interpretation of "My Wild Irish Rose," on his self-styled, self-styled, "Milkophone", came as a special feature of the show. The music was hammered from a series of bottles containing varying vary-ing quantities of water, and strung on a frame. Although dubbed the "Milkophone" and reportedly re-portedly constructed from milk containers, the dozen or so bottles bot-tles suspended in the frame bore the appearance of having at one time held something slightly stronger than milk. The performance of The Bentley Bent-ley Trio was very favorably accepted, ac-cepted, the only criticism being that it ended too soon. The stake officers of the MIA accomplished accomplish-ed a real community service in bringing this feature to Roosevelt. |
