Show IVIayor Proclaims Annual Poppy Day Saturday , May 21, has been set aside as Poppy Day in Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, in a proclamation issued this week by Mayor Homer P. Edwards. The proclamation urges urg-es all citizens to observe the day by wearing memorial poppies in honor of those who gave their lives in the two World Wars. It reads: "WHEREAS, 33 men of Roosevelt Roos-evelt gave their lives in defense of the United States of America in World War I and World War II: and "WHEREAS, memory of their service and sacrifice is a source of great inspiration to all citizens citi-zens as our nation faces new difficulties dif-ficulties and dangers; and "WHEREAS, this memory is kept bright by the annual wearing wear-ing of memorial poppies in their honor, and in honor of all other Ameri ans who died in world war f . vice; "NOW. THEREFORE. I. Homer Ho-mer P. Edwards, Mayor of the City of Roosevelt, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 21, to be Poppy Day in the City of Roosevelt, and urge that all citizens ci-tizens observe the day by wearing wear-ing the memorial poppy of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. |
