Show Bishop's Day At . j Whiterocks Draws Record Attendance An estimated 1000 persons trekked to Whiterocks last Friday Fri-day to watch the staging,- or to take part in St. Elizabeth's mission's mis-sion's annual Bishop's Day. From Salt Lake, Ogden, Provo and Uintah Basin towns, visitorss crowded the chapel lawn during the morning to witness Episcopal church rites which included a confirmation. The afternoon was devoted to entertainment featuring Ule dances by students from the elementary el-ementary grades at the Whiterocks White-rocks Indian school, under the direction of Mrs. Henry Wopsock; a free barbecue, and the initial public performance of the Whiterocks White-rocks mounted posse. Guest of honor was Rt. Rev Stephen C. Clark. Episcopal Bishop of Utah, who officiated at the morning's religious, ceremonies. cere-monies. He was assisted by Rev. Joseph Hogben, vicar of St. Elizabeth's Eli-zabeth's mission; Rev. W. H. Wolfe, vicar of St. Paul's, Vernal, and Rev. H. Baxter Lcibler, famed Episcopal missionary to the Navajos and founder of St. Christopher's mission at Bluff. The barbecue attracted between be-tween 800 and 900 persons who were fed, free style, on the mission mis-sion lawn. Captained by Rev. Hogben, the Whiterocks mounted posse staged a stellar horsemanship j show which included formation riding, jumping, sack racing and pole bending. The spreading fame of Bishop's Day was evidenced by a $256 contribution from the Ohio Diocese Di-ocese to help defray expenses. |
