Show 4-H Club Camp Termed Best Of Annual Outings by Shirley Zirker With one of the biggest turnouts turn-outs in the history of 4-H outings out-ings in the Ashley forest, 4-H groups from Uintah and Duchesne Du-chesne counties concede top tonors to the one just passed, honors to the one just passed, away saying that they failed to have a good time have only themselves to blame. Thursday evening, as the encampment en-campment got underway at Little Park, a short program was presented and officers elected. elect-ed. Chosen to govern the camp were Elmer Lemon, mayor; Barbara Bar-bara Preece, assistant mayor; Donna Mecham, chief of police; Izola Morrill, secretary, and Shirley Zirker, camp scribe. A feature of the opening evening was a talk by Supervisor Ona Harrison of the Ashley forest. Friday morning started with the entire camp gathering at the flag pole for the flag raising ceremony after which Marden Broadbent led the group on a nature hike. Contestants were selected from the participants to compete in a plant identification contest. Velma Brummett, Myton, My-ton, won first place! Lola Bart-lett, Bart-lett, Tridell, second, and Barbara Preece, Ashley, third place. Later Lat-er a radio program was broadcast broad-cast from the Uintah Basin. Physical fitness contests, handicraft han-dicraft work, a track meet and a log-sawing contest were the big events for Friday. In the handicraft handi-craft work Reta Curtis, Glines, and Cherie Dennis, Myton were the first and second place winners win-ners respectively. In the track meet Barbar Preece, Helen Rich-ens, Rich-ens, Julia Rigby, Deon Freestone, Maxine Kitchen and Virginia Bowden were the winners. Han-na Han-na boys won the potato rolling and penny in the flour contests. In the log-sawing contest Junior Bartole and Norman Casper, of Hanna, placed first; in the girls' division Rane Gill and June Lar-sen Lar-sen walked away with top honors. hon-ors. In the campfire program. Donna Don-na Mecham was judged the best reader; three- girls from Glines presented the best skit and the Mt. Emmons trio took honors in the singing contest. Clubs represented at the annual an-nual encampment were: Hanna, Tabiona, Roosevelt, Talmage, Mt. Emmons, Duchesne, Arcadia, Myton, Neola and the Cove. |
