Show AMERICAN FARMER NEARS PORT UNDER OWN POWER I ENGLAND RADIOPIIOTO With her nose low and a gaping hole clearly visible on the port side abaft the bow, the United States Lines' American- Farmer is shown from the air as it neared Falmouth on the English coast. The ship, which was in collision with a vessel, in the North Atlantic, last Wednesday, was abandoned abandon-ed by her crew. International controversy arose when a tiny British Brit-ish ship, the Elizabete, put a salvage crew aboard and attempted to tow, her to port. A sister-ship of the American Farmetr, the American Ranger, came upon the scene, took charge of the vessel and cast off the Britisher's tow line. Later, with pumps going and steam up, the American Farmer resumed her journey to port under her own power. |
