Show Church Leader Admonishes LDS Members To Live By Commandments by Homer P. Edwards Quarterly conference of the Roosevelt Stake of the L. D. S. church was held at Roosevelt on Sunday, with Elder Mark E. Peterson of the Quoroum of Twelve and Stewart B. Eccles of the General Welfare Committee being the guests from the general gener-al authorities of the church. Morning services were conducted con-ducted by President Ray E. Dill-man, Dill-man, who introduced the visiting visit-ing authorities. In his opening remarks President Dillman urged urg-ed devotion to the work of the' gospel and gave particular attention at-tention to the sacrcdness of the home and warned against the problem of increased prevalence ' of divorce. Mona Wilson, who recently returned re-turned from the East Central, States mission and Beulah Per- cival, who has Just returned from the Northern States mission, mis-sion, reported briefly upon their work and labors in the mlsson-field mlsson-field Elder R. Vernon Larson, stake superintendent of the Sunday Schools spoke briefly upon the leaching of the gospel as it affects af-fects the Sunday School. Elder Mark E. Peterson in addressing the conference, urged urg-ed the return to fundamentals. He read the Ten Commandments and strongly urged the worship of the true and living God and warned against the use of .profanity, .pro-fanity, as a vile and abominable practice. He urged all to obey the laws of chastity and gave a fervent plea to the youth "to guard well their virtue." Elder Stewart B. Eccles told of the establishment of the church welfare work some ten years ago and of the great shipments ship-ments of clothing and food that have been sent overseas to the needy members of the church in war-torn countries of the world and that still more material would have to be sent. to them. He stated that there, were many local calls upon the welfare committees com-mittees and urged the continued activity of the members in the program of production and distribution. dis-tribution. President Leland H. Angus urged full support of the welfare program. At the afternoon session, President Pres-ident Wm. O. Whitehead, of the stake mission committee, read extracts from the church works, and Mrs. Virgie Murphy, stake chairman of the girls' leadership committee told of her work and the support it had been given. Elder Mark E. Peterson closed the session with a discussion centered cen-tered about the theme of "No man can serve two masters," from the Sermon on the Mount. He urged the keeping of the commandments com-mandments of the Lord and admonished ad-monished all to "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God."
