Show Ashley Rated Tops In Sale Of Timber The Ashley National Forest leads all forests in Utah in the amount of timber sold, rates second sec-ond in the amount of timber cut during the fiscal year ending June 30, according to Forest Supervisor Su-pervisor Ona A. Harrison. Over 13 million feet board measure of sawtimber and mine props were sold and nearly 8 million feet board measure was cut on the forest during the fiscal fis-cal year. Approximately 35 sawmills saw-mills are operating on or near the forest. The sawtimber and mine props are sold mainly to markets in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. A new road is nearing completion com-pletion up Dry Fork Canyon which will make accessible 135 million board feet of merchantable-material which will be appraised, ap-praised, advertised in small units and sold to the highest bidder. The bulk of the merchantable material on the Ashley Forest consists of lodgepole pine; however how-ever considerable Englemann spruce and some Ponderosa pine will be offered for sale. All cutting of timber is being done under supervised management manage-ment with the objective of protecting pro-tecting and controlling the use of this natural resource so as to maintain a perpetual supply and to make the distribution to the people at fair and reasonable prices, states Mr. Harrison. |
