BLODGETT Utah Federation for Drug-Free ; Youth will sponsor its fourth " annual conference April 15 and 16 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, it was announced by Marva Jones, Bountiful, general chairman. Most of the conference activities will be held on the fourth floor of - the Salt Palace, 120 N. 200 W. Sev- : eral presenters are from Davis County. Two National Football League stars along with Karl (Mailman) Malone of the Utah Jazz, National Basketball Association will be noted speakers during the two-day conference. Representing the NFL will be Marcus Allen, running back of the Los Angeles Raiders, and quarterback quarter-back Steve Young of the San Francisco Fran-cisco Forty-Niners and former all-v all-v American from BYU. BYU football coach La Veil Ed- wards will conduct a 10 a.m. ses-. ses-. sion on Friday. Theme of his workshop work-shop will be "How to get kids to perform at their best." Becky Trimble, outstanding ; female basketball player at BYU f and formerly a star at Woods Cross High, will join a sports panel, mod-; mod-; erated by Craig Bollerjack of KSL Television, at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Also on the panel will be Marcus Allen, Steve Young, Diane Elling-son, Elling-son, all-American gymnast from the University of Utah; and John Moore, Mr. Internationalist in 1986 -and 1987. "How to Succeed Without Using" Us-ing" will be the theme of the sports panel. ' ... Following the same theme as a year ago a conference that attracted more than 5,000 Inter-mountain Inter-mountain area youth and their parents pa-rents the theme will again be "Reach for a Natural High." The conference will open on Friday, Fri-day, April 15, with the welcoming address and introductions by Jan Bullock, president of the Utah Federation for Drug-Free Youth, who lives in Bountiful. Gov. Norman Bangerter and Utah's First Lady, Colleen Bangerter, Banger-ter, will be the keynote speakers to open the conference. Mrs. Bangerter Banger-ter has been an honorary but very active member of the Federation Federa-tion for the past three years. Flag presentation and Pledge of Allegiance will be offered by Boy Scout Troop 322 of Bountiful. Heisman Trophy winner Marcus lien will be featured speaker at b:50 a.m. Friday. He is an active member of the DARE Program which promotes drug awareness to children throughout the Los Angeles (Calif.) Unified School System. Other featured sreakers include novelist and playwright Carol Lynn Pearson, native of Salt Lake City and BYU graduate now living and writing in Walnut Creek, Calif.; Hyrum W. Smith, chairman of the Board of the Franklin Institute, Insti-tute, noted speaker and author; ?$, ?V fill I ' v f -..'
