Show By TOM HARALDSEN Clipper Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL -- Senior running back Kelly Martines, playing his last game ever for the Viewmont Vikings, made the end something to remember. Martines rushed 22 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns Friday night, as the Vikings dumped Woods Cross 27-1 27-1 1 in the season finale for both clubs. THE WIN enabled Viewmont to finish 2-3 in Region Four play and 4-5 overall. They finished in fourth place, but will not get a state playoff play-off berth this year, due to realignment realign-ment of 4-A teams. Next .year, the top four teams in Region Four will go to state. Both teams showed vast improvement im-provement over the season's open- tines then scored on a nifty 17 yard scamper, and Viewmont led 7-3 with 7:48 to go in the half. WOODS CROSS answered that score with a drive of its own, a drive that finally bogged down at the Viewmont 14. But Shiotani's field goal attempt was just wide. From their own 20 after the miss, Viewmont again drove 80 yards in seven plays, with Martines picking up 42 of those yards on three carries. car-ries. The Vikings scored on a 17 yard pass from Burningham to Duke but the PAT was low, leaving the score 13-3 Viewmont at halftime. THE VIKINGS iced the game on their opening drive of the third period. Following a Woods Cross punt, Viewmont marched 47 yards in nine plays, the key plays two tines scored from the 8, giving the Vikes the final margin of victory and himself his first 200-plus yard rushing game of his career. Warren Hatch, the Vikings coach, said preparing for the final game was no problem. "It was easy to get the team up for this game," he stated. He was pleased with the play of his offense, praising prais-ing Martines as a back "who uses his quickness to make up for not having breakaway speed." FOR THE contest, Burningham was 8 of 14 for 154 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His junior counterpart from Woods Cross, Kimbrell, was 5 of 12 for 57 yards, with one interception. And Senior Dave Larson went out in style, hitting 5 of 6 passes for M yards and one interception.
