WHIZ BANG GINGERS 2Va cups flour 1 tsp. ginger '2 tsp. soda Vi tsp. salt Vt cup sugar Vz cup molasses I cup shortening L egg Place all ingredients in a large mixer bowl. Blend all ingredients together at low speed of mixer until a dough forms. Using a teaspoonful of dough make small balls with the dough. Place on greased cookie sheet. The balls may be dipped in sugar before placing on cookie sheet. You may decorate them with colored sugar or candies. A half of a maraschino cherry may be placed on the top of each cookie. If you want flat cookies, flatten with a glass or fork. Bake at 350 degrees for ten minutes. Makes about 36 cookies. ORANGE CARROT COOKIES 1 cup shortening Va cup sugar 1 cup cooked, mashed carrots 1 egg, unbeaten 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups sifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder Vi tsp. salt CREAM shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add the carrots, egg and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together the dry ingredients and add to the carrot mixture. Mix well. Drop batter bat-ter by teaspoonsful on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen. Frost with Golden Glow Frosting. GOLDEN GLOW FROSTING Combine juice of Vi of an orange, grated rind from one orange, 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine, and 1 cup sifted powdered sugar. Frost cookies while they are still warm. HALLOWEEN COOKIES 1 cup soft shortening 2 cups brown sugar 2 eggs Vi cup sour milk 3 Vi cups flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla CREAM the shortening and the sugar. Add the eggs and the vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Stir in the milk. Sift the dry ingredients together, and stir into the creamed mixture. Chill dough one hour. With floured hands roll dough into small balls. Place on baking sheet. Press just slightly with hand. If the dough is tfto sticky to roll the balls, add just a little more flour to the dough. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. mi-nutes. Cool. Frost with orange frosting. ORANGE FROSTING 2 egg whites 2 cups powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla or almond flavoring l'2 Tbsp. water BEAT EGG whites until stiff with electric beater. Add sugar and vanilla gradually. Add water slowly slow-ly as you beat. Frosting will look like thick enamel paint. Color with food coloring. Frost the cookiesjJm and let them dry before stacking.VVA Decorate as for pumpkins. 0Plr |
