" There are many emergencies kit need to be dealt with long be-lrtlMt be-lrtlMt the ambulance arrives, 'M' whether it is stabilizing someone involved in an accident or performing perform-ing the Heimlich maneuver on someone who is choking. IN THE United States alone, approximately 4,000 people die each year from choking. This is really sad because the Heimlich maneuver is something that can be taught to young children as well as adults. Emergencies like choking, electrical shock, drowning or cardiac car-diac arrest need to be dealt with immediately. If the brain isn't receiving oxygen ox-ygen for a period of between 4-6 minutes, permanent brain damage or even death can result. We have tried to cut down the response time within the South Davis Fire Districts Dis-tricts area of protection by strategically strate-gically locating fire stations and personnel, but even in an area close to the stations the particular emergency needs to be dealt with before our ambulance arrives. The goal of the Utah Paramed Foundation Founda-tion and South Davis Ambulance Assoc. is to have one CPR trained person in each home. IF ANYONE is interested and they have a group of ten people or more, they can call the South Davis Fire District Station 1 at 295-6622 or 295-6644 or station 2 at 292-5295 to set up a class. The cost is $5 per person, and is tax deductible. The class is four hours long and can be taught at any time of the day and anywhere that is convenient for the class. |
