| Show vocational ag department active at local school the smith hughes boys of the R H S accompanied by their instructor john R adams superintendent erin A J ashman principal A al Maug maughan ban county agent S R boswell and J L despain adult project leader of venice ice made a half of some of the projects being carried out by boys registered re in the vocational agricultural department as a part of their regular work the tour started in richfield where the group saw the swine herds belonging to horace gunn zell peterson max nielson and dean isbell these boys all have nice litters of pigs from their pure bred hampshire sows bows which were purchased through mr air adams poultry projects belonging to murray Al maughan aughan wilford ogden and dae coons were visited projects from which all of the boys have been conducting successfully cess fully considering market conditions dit ions A truck garden project belonging to roy larsen was next visited and from there the boys went to an acre of outstanding russett burbank potatoes belonging to reed poulson another outstanding acre of bliss triumph potatoes belonging to boyd christensen was visited and later the party went to the swine projects being conducted by dwain buchanan ralph buchanan and gilbert avery of venice as well as the poultry project of douglas buchanan and the rabbit project of mckay avery all of which exhibited careful work on the part of the boys in glenwood the crowd visited the swine projects of fletcher heilesen and arnold payne and sugar beet projects belonging to harold and wayne sorensen odean anderson and albert ray which have the promise of 18 to 20 tons to the acre the last place visited was the fitzgerald farm where douglas has a nice dairy project it was gratifying to see the substantial projects which give evi evidence of the fact that vocational agricultural work is gaining favor and becoming established on a firm basis in the sevier school district registration in smith hughes department of the R H S is over double what it was a year ago activities are being planned which will not only give the boys a great deal of fine experience but which also should keep this group of boys on their toes during the whole school year the election of officers for the IF F A chapter is being discussed marion peterson and dean isbell are possible candidates for president af of interest in the department tin this s week also was the visit of L R humphreys state supervisor of vocational agar culture who accompanied mr air adams on visits to various projects and discussed with him the program for the year expressing praise for the work being done by the boys |
