Show CLARK TURNS DOWN TOGA. Speaker of House Declines Senatorship. Believing He is in Right Place. . Washington. Speaker Clark has declined de-clined Governor Gardner's proffer of the Missouri senatorship to fill the vacancy va-cancy caused by Senator Stone's . death. Speaker Clark in his letter of declination de-clination said : "In this awful crisis of our country's affairs indeed, of the whole world's affairs it is the imperative duty of every man to serve the people and uphold up-hold the government to the best of his ability and in the position where he can do the most good. I believe that I can render more service in the speaker's speak-er's chair than in the senate. 'Therefore. 'There-fore. I feel constrained to decline your tender of the senatorship, heartily thanking you and the many Missouri-ans Missouri-ans who have urged me to accept." |
