Show German Resources Strained A picture of the economic situation situ-ation inside Germany is presented pre-sented by the Foreign Economic Administration, which recently replaced the old Board of Economic Eco-nomic Welfare. The agency frankly states that "economic factors alone, without accelerated military offensives, cannot be expected to cause a German collapse in 1944." However, the' FEA concludes, upon the basis of its survey, that "the German economy cannot possibly be expanded to meet the increasing strength and pressures of the United Nations' offensives in 1944." j In brief, the conclusion is that German-dominated Europe is producing war materials adequate ade-quate for a prolonged defense on the basis of the present military situation. When a cross-Channel invasion is added to offensives offen-sives now underway in Russia, in Italy and in the Balkans, the strain on the Nazi economic system sys-tem will be too great and the productive powers of Germany will be unable to supply the increased in-creased demands of war on such a large scale. |
