Show Prosperity, It Seems Proserity is certain, it seems, and it will not result from) government spending, old age payments or inflation. in-flation. Grover A. Whalen, president of the World's Fair, to be held in New York, next year assures everybody that a $1,000,000,000 increase in :rade will accrue to New York from its fair and that by the time this expenditure "has coirmpleted its cycle and been felt the country over" it will grow tenfold. This means a $10,000,000,000 additional expenditure, 'which dwarfs the government's gov-ernment's nine billion dollar budget. However, before venturing this exposition-idea of prosperity, we recall that San Francisco is also staging a fair, which ought to mean pretty much the same thing to the country after its expenditure expendi-ture "has completed its cycle and been felt the country over." The case for prosperity seems to be clinched but, maybe, just to be certain, we should get busy and see if we can't persuade Chicago, St. Louis or some other city to put on a fair. This would be playing it safe; after all, maybe one of the other' fairs might fall doiwn on our expectations. |
