Show POST HASTE by J. It. Mills, Postmsistev Pleasant Grove Post OfficePatrons OfficePat-rons will be pleased to learn of an important change in postal regulations regul-ations which will provide new convenience con-venience for mailing packages. Effective Ef-fective immediately patrons are no longer required to mark on the parcels the words: "May be opened open-ed for postal inspection." The change applies to sealed fourth-class fourth-class mail or parcel post packages, and sealed third class mail (those containing merchandise and weighing weigh-ing less than 8 ounces.) This "may be opened" endorsement endorse-ment never has been necessary for parcels sent by the higher first-class first-class postage rate, and hence, the new endorsement change does not effect such parcels in any way. The new change came about as a result of a ruling of the Post Office Department Solicitor that by mailing a sealed parcel at the third or fourth class rate of postage post-age the sender has given his implicit im-plicit authority that the parcel may be opened for inspection if necessary, in accordance with law. Nearly one billion parcels handled hand-led annually by the Post Office Department and the bulk of them at the third and fourth class rate, it can be seen that the change will make an importance difference differ-ence for mailers. Now any parcel may be mailed without labels, notations, endorsements endorse-ments and similar red tape referring refer-ring to the opening of such parcels. par-cels. If the patron wished the package pack-age not be subject to inspection he merely sends it first class, preferably prefer-ably marking it as first class mail. It is time again to get out your Christmas list again and be sure you have the full name, street and number, city, zone and state for each one you are sending to. Remember Re-member the first class friends deserve de-serve first class mail and they get this service when you use 3 cent stamps. Now is the time to lay in a good supply of heavy wrapping paper and string and boxes. Right now is a good time to start your gifts to the most distant dis-tant points and try to have them mailed by the .first week in December. De-cember. Do not mail all your Christmas cards at the last minute. Those with out-of-state addresses should go by December 10, and all others should be mailed by a week before Christmas. Your help will make a merrier Christmas for everyone. |
