Soil Conservation Supervisors Install Signs at District Limits The Supervisors of the Alpine Soil Conservation District have just completed 'the installation of highway signs at the north side of Orem and just south of the 1 point of the mountain. These signs mark the north and south boundaries bound-aries of the Alpine Soil Conservation Conserva-tion District. The signs were installed by the SCD supervisors, themselves: J. Earl Smith, chairman; Leo P. Harvey, Har-vey, Adair Bromley and Yukus Inouye. Garn Holbrook was not able to attend the sign-setting event. "For those who are not acquainted acquaint-ed with the Alpine SCD, it is one of 48 in Utah. It is a legal sub-I sub-I division of the State and was vot-led vot-led into existence by the land own-jers own-jers and operators of North Utah County in 1946. It is directed by the five supervisors, three of whom are elected and two: appointed by the State Soil Conservation Committee," Commit-tee," says Earl Smith, chairman. Mr. Smith further comments: "You won't believe it but we supervisors sup-ervisors do not get paid for this job. We get only a small part of our expenses paid. We meet the first Monday of each month at the Lehi City Hall and anyone interested inter-ested is welcome to attend our meetings." The State Soil Conservation law passed in 1937 gives us the responsibility respon-sibility of carrying out a Soil and Water conservation program within with-in our SCD boundaries. The Alpine SCD has 24,460 acres of irrigated 17,700 acres dryland and 125,000 acres of range land all privately owned. The county, state and Fed- eral land adds 163,580 acres which makes a total of 331,440 acres in our Soil Conservation District," reports re-ports Mr. .Smith. "At the present time we are conducting con-ducting an election by mail ballot bal-lot to fill the three elected positions posi-tions on our board. The candidates are Evas nL. Anderson and R. Gam Holbrook of Lehi; Gecrge E. Graff and Adair Bromley of American Amer-ican Fork; Yukus Inouye of Highland; High-land; and Alonzo Hooley and Hans Christensen of Pleasant Grove. We urge all land owners and operators opera-tors in the District to vote and return their ballot by Nov. 30," concluded Mr. Smith. |
