Show POPULAR SINGERS "King Sisters" proved popular entertainers in Homecoming events last Friday in Pleasant Grove. 'King Sisters' Provide Enjoyable Entertainment at Homecorninq The red. carpet with the gold edging- was out in Pleasant Grove last Friday, as the High School, community and civic leaders and citizens joined in a welcome home for the famous King Sisters. Had the Mayor been able to find the key to the city, they could have had that too. The nationally known girls, Louise, Lou-ise, Alice, Yvonne and Marilyn, daughters of native-bom King Driggs, arrived in Salt Lake City by air early Friday afternoon and were greeted by Mayor Adams, Chamber of Commerce President George Smith and Principal A. J. Rogers. As they neared Pleasant Grove they became pungently aware of something different in the air. When told that the nose-tingling aroma came from the chili sauce pots of the local canning company, com-pany, the girls demanded a look and were presented with a case of the savory condiment by Manager Wesley Jense., Whether the anticipation of seeing see-ing ithe King Sisters at the 3 p.m. football game was the stimulus is debatable, but the largest homecoming home-coming crowd in history turned out for the Viking-Tiger game Friday afternoon. Records were also broken at the Friday evening Welfare Banquet. Approximately 900 stake members were served a delicious turkey dinner. din-ner. All who were served remained to enjoy the dance and concert which followed at 9 p.m. This audience audi-ence of 900 was augmented by 300 more, who had purchased tickets just to hear the noted singers. At the concert during the dance the King Sisters entertained at a 40-minute concert with a selection of some of their most popular numbers, num-bers, including "Autumn Time in Pleasant Grove," composed by their brother. Bill. During their fi'ee time here Friday Fri-day afternoon and Saturday morning morn-ing the girls visited their father's house, the C. . Gamett residence, the site of the old Cottonwood Grove and enjoyed a trip to the summit of the Alpine Loop Road. The famous guests were loud in their praise of the warm welcome extended to them here and the scenic beauty of the local canyons. can-yons. Said Yvonne, "you people don't realize the wonderful thing-s you have right here in your own backyard. Even the famous Lake Tahoe region doesn't begin to compare com-pare for beauty with the American Fork Canyon area." After spending Friday night at the Alpine Villa, the girls left by air Saturday -afternoon for their homes in California. |
