Show Alpine School District Institute Scheduled For Next Wednesday Dr. G. Homer Durham, vice president pres-ident of the University of Utah, and Harvey L. Taylor, assistant to the president of the Brigham Young University, will be the speakers at the annual institute of the Alpine School District, accord- ing to an announcement made by Superintendent Alma P. Burton. The Institute is to be held in Lehi, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1. In the forenoon, general instructions in-structions will be given and new personnel introduced. Dr. G. Homer Hom-er Durham will be featured speaker speak-er in the afternoon session. Dr. Durham is academic vice president of the University of Utah, and former for-mer head of the Institute of Government Gov-ernment at the University of Utah. He is author of the book, "Readings "Read-ings in American Political Thought." He will speak to the topic, "Problems of Education and Their Effect in the Contemporary Contempor-ary Scene." All personnel of the district, teaching as well as non-teaching, will be in attendance at the meetings meet-ings on Wednesday. In addition to these, the mayors of the cities, presidents of the civic clubs and their educational representatives, as well as all PTA workers are invited in-vited to attend. He has been a teacher, college instructor, high school principal, and superintendent of the Mesa, Arizano Public Schools. Mr. Taylor has given a great deal of community com-munity service, especially in Boy Scout work, is an author and dramatist dra-matist in his own right. Following the address by President Presi-dent Taylor, the teachers will be divided into discussion groups where topics current to "the interest in-terest of teachers and administrators administra-tors will be studied. Friday, Sept. 3, principals will meet the faculty members of each school in their respective buildings. New teachers will be oriented, school rules and regulations, textbook text-book distribution and allotments will be discussed. A local workshop for the lunch workers of the Alpine School District Dis-trict will be held in the Central Elementary School at Pleasant Grove, on Friday, September 3, and will be conducted by Mr. Mary R. Camenish. |
