Show "Huck Finn" Day Saturday Aug. 28 Pleasant Grove's city recreation program will come to a successful conclusion on Saturday August 28, with two interesting activities. At 8:00 a.m. and continuing until 5:00 p.m. the youthful Isaac Waltons of this area will compete for glory, prizes and fish at the traditional Huck Finn Day. The locale for this exciting contest will be the "Waste Ditch" west of town. Five hundred fish, all of legal size will be furnished fur-nished by the U. S. Bureau of Fisheries Fish-eries from their Springville hatchery. hatch-ery. All children thirteen and young- er may participate in the fishing. In the case of toddlers, Dad or Mom may help in baiting the hood; but Junior must do the actual angleing. Prizes will be given for the largest fish, the youngest successful suc-cessful angler, the first fish caught, and for the two best typical typi-cal Huck Finnn costumes worn by boys and girls. At 7:30 p.m. in the Second ward chapel, 25 summer dancing students stu-dents will present a program of numbers learned during the recreation recre-ation classes. Specific dances will include, Hawaiian, Spanish, Tap, Toe, and Charleston specialties. In addition the evening's program will include musical numbers; and the awarding of the prizes won during the Huck Finn activities earlier in the day. The program this year has without with-out doubt been the most successful in the history of supervised recreation recre-ation in Pleasant Grove. From figures fig-ures compiled by Director John Gourley and Assistant Director Jeanette Shannon, 1000 children have participated in the program during the summer months. Counting Count-ing possible duplications the response re-sponse in the various activities has been as follows: Handicraft, 213; Dancing 75; Softball, 100; Girl's Soft Ball, 85; and Swimming Swim-ming and out of town excursions, 1864. A word of appreciation is due directors Gourley and Shannon, the Pleasant Grove Activities Association, Associ-ation, Pleasant Grove City, Alpine District Board of Education, and all local organizations who have contributed so loyally to make the program outstandingly successful. |
