Show Postoffice Maintains 20 Gain In Stamp Sales, Appears Certain To Exceed Second Class Quota ,That stamp sales of the American Fork postoffice, the vital factor in establishing secorrd class rating, are definitely on the increase is revealed by the third-quarter report, released releas-ed this, week by acting Postmaster Hazel Shelley. Stamp sales for the three-month period ending the last of September were $1913.36, compared to $1617.30 for the corresponding quarter last year, an increase of nearly $300, Mrs: Shelley reports. For this year to the end of September, Sep-tember, the stamp sales amounted to $6590.54, compared to $5533.54 for the first nine months of last year. This is an increase of $1057.20, or nearly 20 per cent greater, indicating indicat-ing a decidedly upward trend in stamp business. The volume of stamp sales is the important factor in raising the rating rat-ing of postoffices. At the present time, the American Fork postoffice is in the third class. If a net stamp sales of $8,000 a year is maintained, the postoffice will be taken into second sec-ond class, which would mean many advantages to the postoffice and to the city. To make the net figure of $8,000, a gross stamp sale of nearly near-ly $9,000 axyear is required. It is virtually certain that the local postoffice will exceed the gross requirements this year, Mrs. Shelley said. The last quarter of the year, with the Christmas mailing business, is generally the best, and with only about $2500 "to go", the postoffice should reach the requirements. The large increase in stamp business busi-ness . is attributed to generally better bet-ter business conditions, and especially especial-ly to the establishment of new business busi-ness in the city. The upward trend in stamp sales is revealed by the following figures, for this year and last year: 1940 Stamp Sales First Quarter $2451.35 Second Quarter $2225.83 Third Quarter $1913.36 Total Three Quarters...: $6590.54 1939 Stamp Sales First Quarter $2200.26 Second Quarter $1715.78 Third Quarter $1617.30 Fourth Quarter $2670.51 Total For Year $8203.85 j |
