Show THE TOWN DOCTOR (The Doctor of Towns) Maybe You're Right I'eiliaiiH you are. one of those who t.i Hl(-k ami tired of reading about "liny At Ihjine," "Ho Loyal to Homo Town .Men. hauls," etc. lleing a fair-minded fair-minded Individual, all, I can say is ".Uuylie you'ro light." You may feel as the pentleman who recently said to me, "Your say-IiiK say-IiiK 'Try Tho Homo Follts First' may be all right, and I lon't say it isn't tho proper thing; but It does get my goat to have certain people in my town ahvaya preaching 'Buy at Homo' to iiie, and then turn around and do tho opposite themselves." Sad but true, that Is often the chho. Not long ago a prominent merchant sat at his desk lambasting tho peoplo of his community for doing do-ing business with door-to-door solicitors, soli-citors, and buying in other towns tho things he had to sell. He slated to givo nie figures and what do you suppose he wroto them on? Station-cry Station-cry ho had purchased through the manufacturer of a product he sold. I called his attention to it, and he I said, "I never thought about; that." A tire dealer in the same town said, "Business is bum because 1 everybody in this town has the mail order bug." A half hour later I saw I a statement from this tire store on tho desk of a hanker, made out on a bill head printed by a mail order . concern. When told of this, the tire man said, "Well, I never looked look-ed at it that way." I once heard a druggist give a regular reg-ular lecture on "buying at home," and that same evening saw conclusive conclu-sive evidence that members of his own family did just that which he was cussing others for doing. He said in reply to Inquiry regarding it, "Well, that's a little different." I heard a hardware dealer rave recently because a dry goods merchant's mer-chant's wife bought a cook stove elsewhere; when I told him that I happened to know that his wife would not buy a dress in town for fear others would know what she paid for it, he said, "Well, that's our business." Such cases as this do get a per. son's goat and that is why I say, "Maybe you're right,". But don't let these few "goat-getters" influence influ-ence your attitude. Because a few people don't practice what they preach, don't cut off your nose to spite your face by saying, "Well, they do it so why shouldn't 1"? Be big don't let the ways of doing do-ing and thinking a little people pull you down to their level. If you don't like "Buy at Home," all right but remember this, it's good business on your part any way you look at it it's money in your pocket to Try The Home Folks First. |
