The evening meeting at 7:30 was under the auspices of the 5f. I. A. Elder James E. Talmage in Attend, ance at all Sessions. The regular quarterly conference of Timpanogos Stake convened in the Stake Tabernacle Sunday. October Octob-er 20- The session at 8:45 was a priesthood convention. At the 10 a-m. a-m. general session topics were discussed dis-cussed by the following: Elroy Smith, A. L. Cullimore, Horace Mon-son, Mon-son, S. L. Swenson, James Hansen arid Karl Banks. Roy Swenson, a deacon, was called from the audience to represent the deacons quorum. A solo, "Spirit of God" by Roy Fage accompanied by Gennieve Fu-gal Fu-gal was the next number. James E. Talmage of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles talked in part as follows : "Our church to us means everything. every-thing. It is necessary that we live the Gospel as well as know it. Our mind is an attitude of the spirit. We should develop body, spirit and mind. My mental attitude has a greater effect upon my body than the bodily exercises." A quartette "School Thy Feelings" by Elvin Downs, Roy Fage, Randall Musgrove and Lavell Gamett was the concluding selection, after which Stanley B. Harris pronounced the benediction. President W. W. Warnick was in charge of the 2 o'clock meeting. The La'dies Double Trio gave the opening musical number and T. A. Atkinson offered the invocation. A solo "0 Divine Redeemer" by Beth Black-well Black-well accompanied by Jennie Gleason was next given. A brief report of stake activities by President W. W. Warnick an'd his counselors Edmun Cragun and M. S. Christiansen was the next order ord-er of the session followed by a vocal duet by Elroy West and Leda Thompson Thomp-son "The Morning Breaks the Shadows Flee." George H. Brimhall spoke briefly, touching on the Law of Tithing. Elder James E. Talmage said that In eternity we will not be judged by what we have done but what we are. He advised all to read the 30th chapter chap-ter of Proverbs and said there was a difference between saying prayers and praying prayers. Parts of his talk were as follows: "I'd rather be a rural diamond In the rough than the largest paste polished imitation. I should like perfection of character for that's what I want others to know of me. Reputation is what men say of us characters Is what God knows of ns. "Keep the commandments of God. Be what you profess to be. Be truthful. truth-ful. It is just as hard for a truthful man to lie, as a liar to tell the truth. Lies do not match, unless they are very carefully selected. A liar must have a good memory. The time has come when you are to be known for |
