Show Utah's Tourist Trade Breaking All-Time Record -" ' Utah can expect more than 1,-540,000 1,-540,000 tourist visitors this year, according ac-cording to Joe H. Thompson, director direc-tor of the Conoco Travel Bureau, with headquarters at Denver, Colorado. Mr. Thompson made this statement in addressing the Kiwanis club at the Hotel Utah recently. These tourists will spend $32,982,-000 $32,982,-000 here at our many places of scenic interests and in crossing the state both ways en route to San Francisco and New York world's fairs. These figures show an increase in-crease of approximately 32 per cent over any previous year, according to the Salt Lake City chamber of commerce. According to Mr. Thompson, this large tourist trade of nearly 32 million mill-ion dollars will be divided approximately approx-imately in the following proportion: Transportation, $6,396,500; retail trade, $7,994,800; confections, $1,-999,500; $1,-999,500; amusements, $2,558,600. This means that the average tourist to our state of Utah will spend $21.40 each while here. American Fork is indeed fortunate in being located on one of the main highways that leads to most of our scenic attractions, and every business busi-ness interest and citizen as well can expect a full share of this tourist expenditure only in the same proportion pro-portion as our interest in this matter, mat-ter, and backed up by our action to do something about it. According to an actual count, 427 out-of-state touring cars traveled through the city on one typical week-day afternoon, with an average aver-age of three people in each car, making a total of 1281 in all. From these figures it is estimated that 2562 out-of-state, plus the intrastate intra-state tourists, constitutes the tourist flow through American Fork each day as early in the season as June. |
