Show Band Enjoys Trip to Utah State Fair After starting its winter's work with a "wim and a wigor," the American Fork High School Band took a brief vacation last Monday and took in the State fair. Now I know all you people envy the band members arid I can't blame you in the least, but I'm afraid I'm going to make you still more envious. envi-ous. If you just knew the fun we have going places in that bus. I guess we nearly sent the bus driver crazy but, oh, we have a good time! You should hear the perfect (?) harmony we get in our singing! I'm telling you, the Tabernacle Choir can't hold a candle to us. Yes, we really enjoy ourselves. You often hear people remark on how the 'poor little sardines' look in a can. Well the sardines are dead, but the fifty kids and their fifty instruments are far from the grave and when we all get in one bus oh my! Monday morning we left school at 11:15 to go to the fair, representing represent-ing Alpine School District. You can well imagine what started when they turned us country yokels (Grrr?) loose in that great big place We had to play two concerts but we didn't waste any time in between. What with Otta, the high diver, horse races, the rodeo, the petrified man, and all the concessions we managed to keep ourselves fairly busy. Of course being on a band trip, we wouldn't think of eating. (Do I hear a laugh?) We march past the hamburger stands so bravely brave-ly that you'd actually think we didn't want any if you didn't know perfectly well that we'd eaten until we couldn't hold any more. Of course, being so close to such a large city we couldn't leave without with-out visiting it. The 'oh's' and 'ah's' were echoed throughout. Some kids took in a picture show while others decided there was a decidedly empty emp-ty feeling in their middle, and decided de-cided to satisfy it. Then there were the window-shoppers. Ask three certain girls on the latest styles. They aught to know, they spent enought time finding out. About 9 o'clock we met in the Hotel Utah to give them a real treat. The bus met us here and we headed for home a tired bunch, it's true, but a happier one couldn't be found. |
