Show New Elevators Assured For Local Hospital In a report made at the city council coun-cil meeting Monday night, members of the City Hospital board stated that between 85 and 90 patients had received medical treatment at the hospital in the short time since its opening which was the latter part of May. Members of the board present were, William Storrs, A. F. Gaisford and Leo Meredith. Mr. Meredith gave a report on the present status of the hospital. He stated that the institution was doing do-ing very well, having cared for from 85 to 90 patients since May 24th, the opening date. He also reported that finances have been the major problem in the operation of the unit, although all equipment is paid for and the only obligation being the note which is being paid off at the rate of $100.00 per month. He reported that great difficulty is being be-ing met with at the hospital due to the fact that the stairway is very inconvenient in taking patients into in-to and' out of the hospital, and the board felt that the only remedy would be the installation of an elevator, ele-vator, which would be feasable in the building. However, they felt that it was not possible for the com-mitte com-mitte to finance this installation and asked the city to help in connection con-nection with the purchase of the elevator. The cost would be approximately ap-proximately $525.00 for an elevator sufficient to meet the present needs. Following some discussion it was moved by Councilman Nicholes that an appropriation of $300.00 be made to the Hosoital fund for use in t.hp installing of an elevator. The motion was seconded by Councilman Tregaskis. The method of obtaining the balance of the money will be decided by the hospital board and the city council committee. A. F. Gaisford, representing the Poultry Day committee, asked the city to allow the committee the usual concession privileges on Poultry Poul-try Day and that Church street be closed to traffic, and also that any licenses the city issues be issued to conform with other concession fees Councilman Tregaskis moved that all license applications on Poultry Day be turned over to the Poultry committee for issuance and that Church street be closed as requested. request-ed. The motion carried. Other problems confronting the city during dur-ing the one day celebration were discussed, among them the closing of the liquor store. It was recommended recom-mended by the Police committee that the store be closed on Poultry Day. The sense of the council was that this should be done. Mrs. R. E. Booth, Mrs. Carl An- derson and Mi's, Abe Gudmundsen representing the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, stated that they were attempting to formulate plans for their proposed building of the park property in which to store their pioneer relics, They felt that to put up a building such as was fornir erly proposed was beyond their present pres-ent financial ability but that they were working on plans for a rock structure to be entered as a W. P. A. project. The feasability of such a project was discussed and the matter mat-ter was referred to the Public Property Prop-erty committee to work in connection connec-tion with the D. U. P. on the details. de-tails. Kenneth Robinson made verbal application for a license to operate a billiard parlor. It was pointed out that all applicants must be of legal age and also that the city ordinance did not allow for a third billiard parlor in the city. No action was taken on the matter. Chief Pratt extended an invitation to the mayor and the council members mem-bers to attend the firemens convention conven-tion at Miclvale on August 23 and 24th and asked that an appropriation appropria-tion be made to help finance the expenses of the firemen to the convention. con-vention. Councilman Nicholes moved mov-ed that an appropriation of $30.00 be made toward the expense of the firemen at the convention. President C. E. Young was present pre-sent and asked if it was feasable for First West street to be oiled. He suggested that the city measure and levy an assessment on the property owners. The matter was referred to the streets committee to measure the street with regard to determining determin-ing the costs and report bock to Mr. Young, who will got a committee to collect the rate. A report from the State Bacteriological Bacteri-ological labratory on the culinary water analysis of July 9th was read. The report showed the water to be in very good condition. r , . . |
