Show New Officers Take Over Lion Club Duties The officers for the Lions club for the coming year were installed at a cleverly arranged meeting held in the Harrington school building Thursday evening. The wives of the club members were the guests of the occasion. Following community singing conducted con-ducted by Mr. K. J. Bird, the outgoing out-going president, Leo G. Meredith, gave a report and presented the president's button to A. F. Gaisford, the incoming president. Mr. Gaisford Gais-ford presented Mr. Meredith with the past president's button, and accepted ac-cepted the duties of president. Secretary Lloyd B. Adamson gave the secretary's report and financial statement and presented the button of his office to T. A. Barratt, the new secretary. Mr. Barratt presented present-ed Mr. Adamson with the past secretary's secre-tary's ring. Mrs. Russell Humphreys abely read the "Legend of Timpano-gos". Timpano-gos". At 9 p. m. the time was turned over to a special radio program of greetings to the American Fork Lions club on their installation night. The program opened in Washington, D. C. where "Melvin Jones," International secretary of the Lions club gave a speech of welcome wel-come and introduced "President Roosevelt" who gave a good will address ad-dress and congratulated the American Ameri-can Fork Lions club on their activities. activi-ties. Controls were transferred to Den- ver, where "Richard J. Osenbaugh," International President of the club, gave a talk especially for the members mem-bers of the local group. Music from the "Duncan" sisters, singing "Springtime in the Rockies," and "Utah Trail," was heard over this station. Transferring to Los Angeles, Ex-president Ex-president "Herbert Hoover" gave a good will talk and expressed his best wishes for the success of the American Ameri-can Fork club. Going back to Washington Wash-ington "The March of Time" was presented, the main headline news feature being the court of Judge Ernest Seastrand handling the case of two club members vs. the public. One of the culprits admitted having been fined once before, having failed fail-ed to return a book to the library on the due date. Those taking part on the broadcast broad-cast were, J. A. Owens of Provo, Norman B. Wing, R. E. Shelley and Phil Jensen. The Duncan sisters were the Russon Sisters of Lehl. The room was decorated with the art work of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students, each student, whose father was a member of the club, having made a fac-si-mile of the Lion emblem and fastened it to his or her work. Flowers placed in the windows were furnished by the school. A. Barratt. Each lady was presented with a corsage of Lily of the valley and sweet peas. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Secretary's report The American Fork Lions club has closed one of the finest years of its existence. We are now launching launch-ing upon our tenth year of Lion-Ism. Lion-Ism. It is customary and entirely fitting at this time to briefly re- view the activities and accomplishments accomplish-ments of the past year; as your secretary, I respectively suomn uic following report: Our ninth year of service was begun be-gun with 44 members. During the year we have added six new members. mem-bers. Some unfortunately have left us. Lions G. A. Anderson, Spencer Taylor and David Davis moved from our community and seven have been dropped, either through inactivity, or through their own request. During Dur-ing the year our club has held 16 regular meetings and luncheons, three ladies night socials, and the directors have been called together in four additional meetings. Our club has likewise been represented in many inter-club meetings and so- cials. Some of the particular ones ! being Provo, Payson and Lehi. Many splendid diversified programs pro-grams have been given under the direction di-rection of the various committees of our club. We have been favored with many high type speakers at our meetings, among whom we recall: re-call: Past District Governor, Thornton; Thorn-ton; Present District Governor, Can- tril Nielson, Judee Ballif, Dr. Howard How-ard R. Driggs, Dr. Adam S. Ben-nion, Ben-nion, H. R. Merrill, Lion President Haskell, President C. E. Young, Mr. Reboltz, state director of transient camps; International Director Lion Harris, Dr. A. Rex Johnson, Mark Allen, psychologist at the Utah State Training school, Mr. Callahan, Calla-han, director of social welfare in Utah county, and others. American Fork Lions club is recognized rec-ognized by the principal church and community .organizations of our city for its . straight-forward, non partisan par-tisan civic attitude. It is called upon up-on to foster and institute the prin- cinal civic enterprises of our community. com-munity. In this respect it is measuring meas-uring un to its ideal. The club appreciates this attitude of confidence confi-dence and will attempt, no doubt, to Carry on in the spirit of its ideal. Many projects of outstanding merit mer-it have been consummated during this administration. Among the foremost are the following: Revival of Poultry day activities, wherein one of the finest day's celebrations in Utah was participated in wholeheartedly whole-heartedly by our club and other organizations or-ganizations of our community. A brief review of this day's accomplishments accom-plishments might be fitting. To stimulate business preceding the celebration, merchants gave tickets with purchases; lucky numbers from these winning cash prizes each week. The demand for tickets was so great that business increased in the city for the six weeks period from 25 to 40 per cent. The day opened witn a band concert. The mammoth parade was unparralled in our history. his-tory. Chicken sandwiches were served free to all who desired them. At one o'clock a free tour to the larger chicken and turkey ranches was furnished. The afternoon consisted con-sisted of baseball, stunt flying, parachute para-chute jumping and various concession conces-sion rides. At six p. m. the parade was repeated and at seven the grand evening program commenced, which included the Provo American Legion Drum Corp parade, open-air stage dancing, dog and animal acts, fireworks fire-works and the awarding of the Chevrolet coach. A dance at Geneva Ge-neva comnleted the day's program.1 Receipts from all sources resulted in $1,950.00. with a total expense. ive board should be complimented tor their splendid activities.
