Show Federal Funds Makes Adult Education Edu-cation Possible Under the new plan whereby federal fed-eral funds will be available to give certified teachers, now unemployed, part time employment at least, adult education will become a reality in this community. All teachers who are unemployed now are urged to contact Superintendent Superin-tendent Gourley at his offices in the Harrington School building and have him explain the plan. These classes will be organized and if American Fork has no one qualified to handle the classes, unemployed teachers will be brought from other communities to give the desired instruction. in-struction. It is hoped that teacher's of this community who are qualified will avail themselves of this opportunity oppor-tunity that the revenue may remain here. Under the new plan, at least six persons must register for a desired class which cannot be organized for less than this number. A suitable instructor will be provided for each group. There have been many adults in our community who have expressed themselves in the past as regretting their inability to attend school and either brush up or advance then-knowledge then-knowledge of certain subjects. The opportunity is here now and it is to be hoped that all who are interested inter-ested will not let this opening for education slip by. Former graduates of the hierh school who register in these classes may receive college credit for the work done. It will be better for these students however to register in a group by themselves and for this purpose, Monday at 10 a. m. has been set for former graduates to meet at the high school and get organized. or-ganized. Subjects for study such as agriculture, agri-culture, English, history, social science, home-making, short-hand, bookkeeping, typewriting, have been suggested, in fact any subject for which six persons or more make a: request will be given. j Mr. Noal, of the state superinten- dent's office, who is in charge of part-time education, gives the inf or- j mation that teachers of this com- munity will be given preference for employment, but if they are not available instructors from other' parts of the state will be employed. ' The classes will meet every dav. ! the hours of 3:00 to 5:00 p. m. be-' ing suggested. If this is not desired 1 other hours may be arranged. The' classes, will meet five days out of1 the week and a splendid course of j instruction may be obtained. Adults and former graduates who' are interested should lose no time1 in making their desire for subjects' known. Those who wish to obtain' this part time education may contact con-tact Principal Jesse M. Walker at the high school for further information. |
