Show City Tax Levy Raised Two Mills American Fork City's tax levy was placed at 17 nulls Saturday evening after a study of the total assessed valuation -and the required revenue necessary under the budget. This is a two mill raUe over the levy of previous years. A resolution duely presented and passed by a unanimous vote of the council set the levy and segregated the fund levy as follows: Contingent 5 mills Waterworks 1 mill Streets and Alleys 2.5 mills Electric Lights 2.5 mills Public Library 1 mill Sinking Fund 3 mills Public Property, Maintenance Mainten-ance 2 mills Total 17 mills With the steady decline of tax payments pay-ments over the past three or four years and the added financial burdens bur-dens which the city has been called on to shoulder the raise in. the levy has become absolutely necessary if the city is to meet its obligations, ' say officials. The valuation for this year is $1,-333,800.00 $1,-333,800.00 as compared with $1,452,-. $1,452,-. 632.00 valuation for 1932. In addi- tion to this loss in valuation the percentage of tax payments in the city is now 60 to 70 per cent as compared with an 80 to 90 per cent payment a few years back. This loss of tax revenue along with reduced revenues from other sources necessitates necessi-tates the raise. It has been felt that for a year or two past the levy should have been raised to bring in enough revenue to take care of operating op-erating expenses, fixed bond and interest charges, etc. but officials felt that with rigid economy they could save the taxpayers this extra cost. However, now the point has been reached when good business practice demands that a raise be made. Taxes on this levy are due November Novem-ber 30th and as soon as other levies from the other taxing units have been made notices will be made and mailed to all property owners. |
