S is A Pleasant Grove Junior Jazz team took honors in the State play-offs in Salt Lake City. The Pleasant Grove Celtics team took Second Place in the State Championship held April 7 and 14 at the Salt Palace. In the semi-final- the 13 and 14 year old girls team, played a team from Fillmore and won, then they placed a team from Layton, they lost the gamebut took second place. The girls were invited to the Jazz vs. Rockets game and were presented trophies at half time. This team was undefeated in both league and district play with a record of 17-- prior to the champi-onship game. There were 2,700 girls who par-ticipated in this p7 0Tam in the state. The coaches are proud of the girls and would like to express appreciation to the parents of the girls for all their support. Back row: Aurora Iordachescu, Loree Best and Tiffanee Best. ,18th Ward Young Women place first The Pleasant Grove 18th Ward Women's basketball team XI first place in the LDS Church ""Sarea tournament playoffs. The team onlinnl undefeated throughout the j j 'entire season. They competed with teams in the area tournament from as far away as Heber, Lehi and Payson. Robin Oliver served as coach of the winning team. Team members are Judy Lin, Cassie Ormsbee, Denise Nuuan, i,isa Nuttall, Michelle Harding, Shannon West, Michelle Larson, Hillary West, Kristin Bezzant, Aurora Ior-dachescu, Loree Best, Tiffannee Best and Konda Shepherd. Soccer tryouts Saturday The Utah Soccer Association's final competition tryouts will be held Saturday morning, May 6, at the Orem Recreation Center. All boys and girls born from 1974 to 1981 are eligible to tryout. Varied times are given for the age groups. School All-lat- e Drill Team by the Utah High (tool Athletic Association. Miss (orlhington is one of 10 girls from hroughout the state to receive this onor. Angie is a senior at Pleasant rove High School where she is a Siree year member of the Pleasant ViQueen drill team. She has rved as historian, vice president nd is the current drill mistress for le group. Miss Worthington is also a lember of the National Honor loeity and has been listed on the igh honor roll throughout high school. . She is a member of Orchesis and the Ballroom Dance team. She has been listed in Who's Who in High School America for the last three years. Last year she was selected to participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland as a member of the National Super Star Drill Team. She was also selected to represent the state of Utah as a member of the Statue of Liberty Drill and Dance team performing in New York City. Angie has received numerous awards for her dancing per- - Angie Worthington lormance. Angie will be attending BYU in the fall where she will major in business management. She is a daughter of Gary and Colleen Worthington of Lindon.
