Show Manila students hold "Drug Free" week :'- . ' j ..j- . " .-,....,. : f -" - . v 5 j ... , t " v : , ' """ - . - ' n, t ttttu s llil' i iiiiiimM Mmud f rtl- ki -011111 rm ir Tittf 4 1 - - "Don't Waste Yourself on Drugs" was the theme of the Manila Elementary Ele-mentary School Drug Free program held last week. In keeping with the theme, the PTA invited Max, the featured actor in the "Don't Waste Utah" litter campaign on television, to speak to the students. Max talked to the children about not littering, not taking drugs, not swearing, and using their time to learn. He told the children that a person per-son generates four pounds of trash per day and 25 pounds of trash per week. lie said that 28 tons of trash per day are thrown upon America's highways. Max told the students to not waste the opportunity to learn, don't waste the opportunity to make friends, and don't waste yourself. Max said for them to like themselves them-selves because people who like themselves do not take drugs. "They are cool without that," he noted. "It is cool to be good," Max added. The students had been asked to write a letter to Max and the winning win-ning letters were read before the entire 840 students and teachers. The children had signed a pledge that they would not Waste Utah nor Waste Themselves on Drugs. This huge scroll and the names of the children were all presented to Max. They also gave him some large bags of trash which they had picked up around the school grounds Fri-day Fri-day morning. Max responded that this was the best kind of a gift he could have received. Judy Schow, Manila PTA president, presi-dent, was in charge of the drug awareness week activities at the school.
