""bed fit izens have announced the month's activities and lunch menus for November. Don Machan w'ill sing for the group at 1 1 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. On Monday, Nov. 6, V&S Variety will hold an Early Bird sale for senior citizens only which will give them an opportunity to shop before regular store hours. The Senior Citizen Center will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, for Veterans Day. The Governors Conference on the aging will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14. The annual Turkey Day lunch-eon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16. Mr. Harward from American Fork Hospital will discuss "Hear-ing for the Elderly" on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 and 24, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. On Thursday, Nov. 30, Utah Power and Light will present a cooking class, "Micro," at 2 p.m. Lunch is served at the center each weekday, unless otherwise noted. All senior citizens are in-vited to attend but 24 hour notice is required to order the lunches. Nov. 7: Hamburger pie, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, raisin filled cookies, whole wheat roll. Nov. 8: Ham and broccoli roll with cheese sauce, molded jellied salad, Boston cream cake, white roll. Nov. 9: Beef and pepper steak with rice, whole kernel corn, let-tuce wedge, jelly roll, white roll. Cooke of Pleasant Grove are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Valerie A., to B. Joel Kempner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Kempner, Sandy, Utah. The couple will exchange vows i in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Oct. 28, 1989. A reception will honor ; the newlyweds on Oct. 28, 1989 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Bunga- - i low, 235 S. 100 West, Pleasant Grove. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Attending the bride will be Ter-esa Cooke as maid of honor, and her sisters, Karmelle Willmore, Kathy Goodwin, Suzanne Baldridge, Kirsten and Sherod Cooke, Jean-ett- e and Melissa Richards, Kim Glover and Michelle Kempner. Best Man duties will be per-formed by Steve Neeleman, Pat McGinnis, and Chuck Osieja, with P.T. Anderson, M.S. Bahr, J.W. Nelson, P. P. Wood, and P. Z. Salie serving as ushers. A special guest is grandmother of the Bride, Ivy Daniels. The bride-to-b- e is graduate o Pleasant Grove High where she was active in dance and cheerlead-ing- . She attended UVCC and is currently attending BYU. She is employed at the Red Lion in Salt Lake. The prospective groom is a gradu-ate of Alta High School where he played basketball. He served an LDS mission to Japan. Heattended UVCC and is attending U. of U. where he is studying Japanese and is employed at Marshall Distribut-ing. The couple will make their first home in West Valley City. H. Joel Kempner Valerie Cooke Preston L. Atwood to celebrate his 82nd birthday at family dinner, party The family of Preston L. Atwood will celebrate his 82nd birthday with a dinner and party at the home of his daughter, Naon Smith, on Saturday, Nov. 4, 1989. All family members are expected to attend with the exception of two granddaughter, Angela Atwood who is attending Reeds College in Port-land, Oregon and Shannon Smith who is away at work in Olds Field, New York. Preston was born Oct. 31, 1907 in Vernal, Uintah Co., Utah to Edson LeRoy and Ida Mae Dingman Atwood. His father bought a home-stead right, on an eighty acre piece of land situated in the north sec-tion of the center dell, of what is now Tridell. He moved his family here March 1, 1911 when Preston was but 2 years old. He attended school in Tridell and Vernal. He married C. Leida Wolley on Sept. 12, 1928 in the Salt Lake Temple. His early married life was spent in ranching and farming in Uintah Basin. In 1951 he sold his farm of eight acres on Whiterock Bench and bought a small fruit and farming acreage in North Orem. Along with farming he attended. Salt Lake Barber College in 1951-5- graduating in 1952. For nine years he barbered in Payson, Orem, and Provo. In 1953 he sold the farm to the LDS Church for a welfare farm and purchased property in Lindon, Utah. He built his own barber shop there by his home and in 1962 he opened for business, and is still bartering at the age of 82. He loves the gospel and has been active in the church most of his life. In 1941-4- 2 they served a mis-sion together in the Southern States, which mission then comprised of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina. In 1948 he was ordained a bishop by Elder Harold B. Lee, to preside over the newly organized Whiterock Ward in Roosevelt Stake. Other callings have been counselor in Mutual presidency, Stake Era Di-rector, Stake High Councilman, first counselor in bishopric, High Priest group leader, home teacher for many years, and various other callings in the church. He loves going to the temple every week, usually on Wednesday on his day off. His health is good and he attrib-utes this to his early daily hour of exercising every morning. He en-'-jo-friends arid family. The joy of his life are his 12 grandchildren, all well and active in sports, school, and church. Preston L. Atwood His children and their spouses are: Cloyd P. Atwood and Marda Walker, Orem; Naon and Danny F. Smith, Pleasant Grove; and Layne L. Atwood and Sherrie Dawn Walker, Pleasant Grove. His family all express their love and wish him a happy birthday. Drug Awareness Week held at jr. high The Pleasant Grove Junior High School is participating in the state-wide Drug Awareness Program with their Red-Ribbo- n Week. This is a chance for students to wear red-ribbo- which say, "It's Hot to Not" and promise to stay drug free. It's a good time for parents to take the opportunity to implement this program by talking to their kids about the dangers of using drugs. The program will continue from Oct. 23 to Oct. 27. On Oct. 27 the PTA will be spon-soring the Fall Party at the school. There will be a dance, a cake walk, miniature gold, "Bingo", lots of food, drinks and treats. This is a fundraising event so there will be a small charge for the activities. The party will take place right after school so that students have Jje choice of participating or not." PTA encourages everyone to, stay and have fun. Magic ropes will also be sold'' These glow in the dark and are U as well as safety oriented. PTA President Roylene Weight, 1 would like to thank everyone for' their support in the membership' drive and the book fair. Both have, been a tremendous success.
