EMS Ann Topham is the new president presi-dent of the Pleasant Grove Ambulance Ambu-lance Association. The long time member of the organization, Ann is the first woman president of the Association. Associa-tion. She has been a member since 1976. Ann is a registered nurse in the Emergency Room at the American Fork Hospital. "My work as an ' EMT is an extension of my work in the hospital," she said. In 1986, Ann was honored as the EMT Instructor of the Year for the state of Utah. As an EMT Instructor Instruc-tor she has taught hundreds of EMTs on the Wasatch Front and in Duchesne County. She has served on the American Heart (CPR) Affiliate Faculty, the Utah County EMS Board, the Tri-City Tri-City EMS Board and has been nominated to be on the Utah State EMS Board. She teaches CPR to high school students with the Utah Emergency Training Council. In the Pleasant Grove Ambulance Ambu-lance Association, she has served as training officer, president-elect and EMT instructor. Ann'shusband, Paul, has been a member of PGEMS since 1974. "We have been in the association the longest of any of the current members," mem-bers," Ann stated. The couple has five children, all who do a good job with first aid and CPR. Ann said that one of the continuing continu-ing problems the organization has is to be able to man enough teams during the daytime hours. She said that since so many women in the organization have had to go to work, it is harder to find people who can take the day shifts. Continual training and upgrading upgrad-ing of the EMTs is a goal that they are working on. The association plans to acquire a new ambulance, perhaps sometime some-time this month. A restructuring of fees is also being considered. |
