Show Firefighters responded to most calls ever Pleasant Grove firefighters responded to more fire calls last year than ever before, according to year-end records. The department had 108 calls in 1987. There were approximately 86 fire calls in 1986. Of the total number of fires this past year, 26 of them were structure fires. The remainder were vehicle fires, brush fires or others. The department had 71 calls in Pleasant Grove. The loss was approximately ap-proximately $95,385. There were 19 calls to Lindon with a loss of approximately $6,150. Cedar Hills had seven fires for a loss of about $10,700. The department responded to 11 calls in the county area. The loss was'about $2,850. The year-end report shows that ! the department had 2,065 man hours i fighting fires. The Pleasant Grove Fire Department has 29 active fire fighters at the present time. The city council responded to an appeal from the firechief last summer and ordered a new fire engine, the first new engine the city has had in 30 years. The new engine arrived early in January. When it was noted that the Crown fire engine would require a considerable con-siderable amount of work to make it usable for fighting fires, the city council decided to purchase the new engine. The fire department holds training meetings at least twice a month, with special classes scheduled when necessary. The Pleasant Grove Fire Department is all volunteer. |
